A pain symptom can occur for different reasons. Nevertheless, it is still common practice today to treat the problem quickly with medication, even when the cause can be linked to a psychological condition. This is most noticeable when the medicine taken does not work and the complaints are not resolved.
Someone suffering from sensory disturbance complains of a limited perception of stimuli. This could be a weak sense of touch, tingling or numbness in the limbs. This disorder may be a dissociation due to deeper psychological stresses. In this case, the psyche expresses its suffering through physical complaints, which are caused by traumas or negative childhood experiences.
In this group of disorders, the first thing to do is to seek medical clarification. If the doctor can not find an organic cause for the pain or sensory disturbances, then they are likely due to somatoform and dissociative disorders from the group of neuroses. In these complaints, the true trigger may point to unprocessed emotions, which can be revealed and healed by hypnosis and EMDR techniques.
